1. How do I apply for parking?

Applications can be submitted either online or in-person. Here is an easy document on how to create an account.

2. Where can I appeal and pay my parking citation?

3. I am a resident of Durham. Do I need a permit to park my vehicle on-street?

The City of Durham’s residential parking permits, otherwise known as a Controlled Parking Residential Area (CPRA) permit, is a program designed to give residents a better chance of finding on-street parking spaces in their neighborhoods. This program governs parking restrictions in six residential communities.

4. Are there time limits for parking in a space?

You can park for as long as the posted time limits allow. For example, if you park in a two-hour zone, you may park in that space for up to two hours. This ensures on-street parking remains accessible at all times. Should you need more time than the posted time limit, you will have to move your vehicle to another parking space or be subject to a fine*

*Parking time limits do not apply to disabled drivers. However, disabled drivers are expected to pay for the time in which that space is used.

5. I work in downtown Durham. What are my parking options?

Monthly parking is available at five decks and several lots located in the downtown area for Durham residents and regular commuters.

6. What is the rate for event parking?

City event parking charges a flat rate of $7. Please remember that cash is the only form of payment accepted at the facility entrance at this time.

7. Can I pay for parking with my phone?

Absolutely! The City’s mobile payment technology is provided by Passport Parking. To use this service, simply sign-up via their website at Passport Parking App website and follow the instructions.  For other parking needs, please refer to our AIMS web portal.

8. Someone is parked in my reserved space. What do I do?

Please contact ParkDurham at 919-560-4157. An enforcement officer will be dispatched to issue a ticket to the vehicle in question. 

9. Is my monthly permit able to be used during special events?

It depends upon the time of the event. If the special event is staffed outside of your access hours, you will be required to pay the special event rate.

10. There is a "full" sign posted outside the garage in which I normally park. Does that mean I cannot park?

"Full" signs are visibly placed to help ensure that monthly parkers are able to park in the garages once the transient threshold is reached. These signs are removed once the threshold drops. 

Though we do our best to ensure that parking is always available, we cannot guarantee spaces for customers with unreserved parking permits. Unreserved spaces are available on a first come, first service available space basis. 

11. I am driving a new vehicle. Do I need to update my records?

Yes, if you are driving a new vehicle, please update your records with Park Durham AIMS customer portal to ensure citation avoidance.
